FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQS)

What is the relationship between Aquatic Animal Alliance and The Aquatic Life Institute?

The Aquatic Life Institute (ALI) was founded to expedite and direct the nascent aquatic welfare movement. ALI believes coalition-building is foundational to this goal and in 2020 initiated several stakeholder coalitions to build and unite this burgeoning movement. These coalition groups interface to collaborate on campaigns, share research insights, and collectively facilitate a multifaceted movement.

Aquatic Animal Alliance (AAA) is now comprised of animal welfare organizations across six continents, with ALI’s team overseeing the day-to-day operations of AAA, including onboarding of new member organizations, scheduling of meetings, and coordination of Alliance initiatives. ALI’s team also provides backend support, such as the preliminary drafting of AAA statements, supportive research, and creation of materials.

Who can join AAA?

AAA is open to all organizations committed to making aquatic animal lives worth living, with a focus on those who identify as animal welfare organizations. After completing the member application, an AAA representative will be in touch and should an organization be a more natural fit for a sister coalition, the organization will be directed to the appropriate coalition group at that time.

What is the structure of AAA? And what are the benefits of membership?

AAA exists as a platform for animal welfare organizations (1) to coordinate and collaborate on aquatic animal focused advocacy and (2) to interface with AAA’s sister coalitions. Participation in AAA affords your organization a seat at the table in the largest global coalition for aquatic welfare, support from AAA with strategic direction and campaigns, and connection to experts and stakeholders through AAA’s sister coalitions. Participating organizations have the option to collaborate on AAA campaigns, participate in quarterly calls will global AAA members, join working groups, and receive direct support from AAA and ALI.

Is there a cost associated with membership?

There is no cost associated with participation in AAA.

Where will you use my organization’s name and logo?

AAA never uses organizations’ names or logos without permission. Upon joining AAA, we will confirm your organization can be featured on the AAA site. For each AAA joint initiative, we will request specific permission for inclusion of your organization’s name and logo, allowing your organization to retain control over the specific initiatives you are associated with.

I am an individual, not an organization. Am I able to join AAA?

At this time, AAA is specifically designed for organizations, rather than individuals. If you are an individual interested in aquatic animal advocacy, please contact us.
